It is said that Mizoguchi area of Houki town has the oldest legend of Oni (S). Oni is an imaginary evil creature described in many Japanese folk tales. Oni is usually portrayed as a gigantic figure with sharp claws, wild hair and two long horns growing from their heads. The statue was built as a landmark of the area.
