Nakaumi and Lake Shinji
Lake Shinji is the seventh largest lake in Japan, with a circumference of 48km. The lake is connected to the Sea of Japan through Nakaumi Lagoon. It is made up of brackish water of good quality, which adds to the abundance of aquatic life. "Shinjiko Shitchin" (³ΉΞ΅Ώ : Seven Delicacies of Lake Shinji) , made of seven shellfishes and fishes of the lake, is a famous local cuisine. Lake Shinji and Nakaumi together are designated as Ramsar Site of Wetlands of International Importance in 2006.
