Japanese Peony house with seasonally blooming flowers

Yuushien
Yuushien is a Japanese-style garden on a small island Daikonjima floating in Nakaumi lagoon. The island of Daikonjima is one of the nation's most famous areas for the production of Korean ginseng and Japanese peonies. About 1.8 million peonies are produced on Daikonjima for a year, which is the largest amount in Japan. The Korean ginseng cultivated in Daikonjima is globally renowned as the world's finest quality.
In the 1950's, sericultural industry had moved into decline, and women on the island had to travel all around Japan selling peony seedlings in order to earn money. Sakai Kadowaki opened the garden so that tourists would visit the island and the women did not have to travel about anymore. The garden was a dream of Sakai's father as well. The garden was named after his father.
The shop within the garden carries a variety of items such as Korean ginseng extract, tea and ice cream. You can also try Korean ginseng tempra dishes in the restaurants.
