Enryuin Temple
Enryuin temple has a history of 200 years. The aging temple was reconstructed in 2009 for safety purpose. The most significant feature of the temple is the painting of Yokai on the ceiling. Yokai is a class of preternatural creatures in Japanese folklore. The painting was drawn by a local distinguished manga artist, Shigeru Mizuki, who is famous for his horror manga GeGeGe no Kitaro.
The former chief priest Touzen (嗒R) was a well-known painter. That's why the ceiling was decorated with the painting. Yokai has the strong connection with the nature. Please enjoy the spiritual cleansing in the unique temple of Mt. Daisen.
