One of the three strange festivals in Japan!?

Takomaishiki Shinji literally means the shrine ritual of octopus dance performance. The ritual is based on the story that a god called Hayatamao no Mikoto was rescued from drowning by a gigantic octopus at Kumanonada, Wakayama prefecture as we know today, to visit this area.
The ritual is very bizarre. You will see naked men only with loincloth lift a man many times with festival music. Then, a man wraps around a beam, and other men spin the man around the beam. The ritual is held at Fukuoka shrine of Houki town in the middle of every October. It has been designated an intangible folk cultural asset of Tottori prefecture.
